It's tough to stay on the other side

Hi Guys,

Again the disappointment from my side continues to show up.

After giving exams and interviews at IIT Guwahati and IIT Delhi, the results are not in my favor.

The exam of IIT Guwahati contained 3 questions:
1) To make a 3D model from a given square paper :(to make anything, and we can cut and paste also, just can't waste any single amount of paper from it).
2) To draw the striking scene according to us, from the IITG main gate to academic complex.
3) there were 3 questions related to product, logo and interactive accessory design. We needed to attend any one of them:

-design an attahcment for a 1 liter paint container, to prevent spilling during use, and in case of toppling, paint should not spill out.

-design a logo for online selling of fruits, that is clearly visible on mobile phones, illustrate the solution and meanings.

-design an interactive accessory to express your emotion to your loved one, illustrate the scenario.

After the test, there was the interview, in which they asked many questions, but the interviews were about 5 minutes average.

The panel was about 8-9 people, all the faculties of Department of Design, and some were just checking the test paper and some were judging my portfolio. and some were asking me questions about my education, the reason for applying to IITG and my interests.

The test was not so well but interview had gone worst, because I could not explain the reason satisfactorily why I need to learn transportation design, even if I've done my BE in Computer Science.

Now Let's talk about Delhi, so the IITD people were faster than the IITG. The test started around 9 a.m. and it was over at 10 a.m. There were 3 questions in which we needed to attend only 1.

1) Illustrate a product from household, which you find difficult to use. Sketch alternative design and tabulate the benefits over existing products.

2) propose a new design for an ATM user interface, which will shell money in multiple currencies. Sketch screens where a person will withdraw 1500 INR, 70 USD and 770 GBP.

3)Propose an Eco-friendly quadra-bike (four wheeled bike) which can be parked in small space and has an indian style.

In these 3, I attended the last one, because I was interested in transportation. Overall it was a good attempt.

The interviews of IITD started at 10:30 and there were only 50 people in competition !! the interviews were going so fast that most of them ended in 2-3 minutes only. Mine was around 7-8 minutes.

They asked me about my engineering results, reason for switching over, and my favorite subjects. They asked about the bike concept and the reasons behind making such a bike. I made a good portfolio layout, but they found my sketching was not good enough. So they told that my sketching was poor. And overall they looked like they are happy with my explanations of the questions.

After the inquiry of results, they said that my name is 10th in the waiting list and there are 10 people in waiting. So I guess, there are no chances of admission this year.

I waited so long for the admission tests and interviews, and tried hard to prepare, but I guess, the portfolio work was not up to the mark this time. I didn't deserve to get admission into M.Des.

While some of the friends getting offers from both the IITs, I felt jealous, too. But I gave sympathies to myself for preparing harder next time and get through any institute that I want. Really, It's hard to stay on the other side, where everybody else is getting success and you are not.
